Dreams is the second EP by Anapauo (An-a-pow-o), an alias for contemplative ambient works written and produced by Brooklyn composer David Buchs. Influenced by his own meditative practices, David creates music that removes all rhythmic instrumentation, using sparse textures, slow tempos, and long sustained notes.
Each track on Dreams is comprised of recorded samples of sustained crescendos and decrescendos from viola, cello, electric guitar, voice, and other sound sources. These recorded sounds are then stretched, transposed, and synthetically processed to be played on a keyboard controller.
In Dream 1, the listener can hear sounds of voice and viola drifting sleepily through a single repeated phrase. Dream 2 uses recordings of a piano and electric guitar playing a single melodic line with sampled instruments weaving between them. Dream 3 is filled with pads and samples from voice, electric guitar, and viola. Dream 4 uses a slow pulse that moves asynchronously to a stark melody, resulting in a sound reminiscent of Brian Eno’s “Music For Airports”.
This collection of downtempo soundscapes will reward listeners with sleep filled nights and peaceful meditations. An album that can be put on repeat for hours.
**Anapauo is the alias forDavid Buchs, a composer whose music has been placed in televised episodes for Bravo, MTV, E!, and other networks. In his first EP, Visions, Anapauo explored melodic ambient downtempo music using a collection of recorded sounds that were sampled and stretched for performance on keyboard. Visions was featured in 'A Year To Get Rich With Purpose' on The Daily Ohm, a course of audio meditations created by Edward Vilga that has been downloaded more than 20,000 times. Visions has also been used in Edward's meditation videos for Every Day Health and on the show "RAW Travel".
